Teething stinks. Really. There is no way around it. I hear that some babies get teeth with hardly a whimper. Not mine. We get full-on clinging, crying, please-pass-the-Tylenol, fussing baby. It is ugly here.
So last night, at around 3 am (because that is when all of the good thoughts happen) it occurred to me that Ava currently has 2 teeth (with another one on the way). As I ran my tongue around the inside of my mouth, counting, I determined that I have way more than two teeth. I have 28 teeth, to be exact (wisdom teeth have been removed). We are going to go through this 26 more times??? One week of teething, times 26 = more than 6 months of teething?!!?! Not good. *UPDATED* Fortunately,
Jami pointed out that there are only 20 baby teeth that come in... so, that shaves two months off the fun. :)
You know what they call it when you get a tooth? I believe the technical term is "eruption." That is appropriate on
so many levels. Our parenting book isn't very helpful. According to them, "teething
may cause occasional discomfort in
some babies." Uh-huh.
Needless to say, we are tired here today. Our sleep progress has taken one giant leap backward. At the moment though, Ava is happily slamming her blocks together and crawling over for a little visit. Wish us luck....
